I’m a big fan of second hand shopping, and I know that many of you are, too. This morning I heard from the owner of a brand-new website that lets you register for gently used baby items. Owner Felicity writes,
Encore Baby Registry is a free website that makes registering for hand-me-down and secondhand baby gifts as easy as registering for new ones. Many expectant parents (including myself) want to receive hand-me-down and secondhand baby gifts, but don’t know how to organize the process. Encore Baby Registry provides a hassle free way for parents and those who want to give them gifts to stretch their dollars and get/give the sanity-saving baby gear a new baby needs without breaking the bank.
The site adds more information:
Encore Baby Registry works like a standard store gift registry…almost. Like a standard store registry, registrants create a free gift registry which is used by their guests to choose and record gifts. Unlike a standard store registry, fulfilling a gift on an Encore Baby Registry does not require purchasing the gift at a specific retailer or even purchasing a gift at all. Guests can obtain gifts from wherever they like, such as an online retailer, consignment store, or their own closets.
As you add items to your registry you can specify how many you need, whether you prefer new or used and whether you’re okay with being loaned an item. You can also link to a traditional registry that you’ve set up elsewhere.
It’s an idea whose time has come! Check out EncoreBabyRegistry.com and let me know what you think.
