Looking for a plastic playhouse for the yard? Save big by picking one up second hand from Freecycle, Craigslist, or even from your neighbor’s back yard. And don’t worry if it’s faded, either. Around $20 worth of spray paint (the kind specially formulated for plastic) and your petite maison will look better than ever. Check out the re-dos and how-tos at Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh if you dont’ believe me.

That playhouse turned out so well! And it’s nice to be able to choose colors other than the standard color scheme. I’ve never fixed up a play house, but we did re-paint a second hand train table earlier this year. Like the playhouse, now that it’s been painted, it looks pretty much as good as new.

We repainted a faded plastic slide with the specialty plastic paint. Looked so cute in pink! However it does not hold up to the heavy wear from a slide and the green is showing through after a year of light use.

Bummer! I was hoping to use this idea on a slide. How many coats did you use? Maybe if I do a ton of coats it’ll hold up better?
