Watch Out Amazon: Walmart to Offer Free Shipping during Holiday Season

Have you heard? Walmart’s going to be offering free shipping with no minimum on 60,000 items during through December 20. The offer includes all electronics, plus lots of toys, baby items, and other products. Return shipping will also be free.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Amazon, one of Walmart’s top competitors in the online shopping game. Amazon and Walmart frequently have similar or identical prices (Amazon makes sure of it), and many people prefer to buy from Amazon because of shipping costs. Hopefully, the extra competition will result in a price-dropping face-off that will benefit us shoppers. A girl can dream.

I took a look at Walmart’s current shipping specials online, and even though Walmart’s press release says the free shipping with no minimum deal is on now, all I’m seeing is their “HomeFree” promo which requires a $45 minimum purchase. The New York Times article I’ve linked to below says the free shipping deal starts tomorrow (Thursday), so check back then.

I love competition! But I feel like Amazon will still come out on top with their super-fast shipping and no sales tax.

  2. Kacie says:

The no sales tax won’t be around forever, if a certain law passes. Still, I looove Amazon! But Walmart has an advantage with things like Ebates and other sites

  3. Cait says:

Walmart offers free shipping to tons of FedEx stores. I don’t have a Walmart near me and was so excited to have my order shipped for free to the FedEx branch just a mile down the road!

  4. Nancy Liner says:

I think Amazon will still have them beat. They are much easier to deal with in terms of customer service and returns. I have an aversion to Walmart though.

  5. Caroline says:

While I’m a bargain girl, I feel like Amazon has more selection than Walmart and will definitely win out in the end…I hope we see some more price slashing there!!

  6. Beth says:

Amazon does have sales tax where I live :(

  7. Becs says:

The no sales tax still puts Amazon on top for us.

  8. Christine L-U says:

that is great news for another option for price comparisons… whichever has the best price plus it would be convenient for returns in store to recipient of gifts. I’m in WA so I get taxed either way if it is sent here… hope there will be good competition and bargains for consumers
