From Craigslist to Freecycle to passing them on to friends, there are a million ways to get rid of outgrown baby clothes. Here’s another one that I really like– Donate them to donate them to newborns that don’t have any.
Thousands of babies are born in the United States each day to poverty, and many of them don’t have a Onesie or sleep sack to their name. There are several organizations around the country that provide needy families with essential baby clothing and gear donated by parents like you. Here are a few of them:
- San Francisco-based group LovedTwice.org distributes clothing to needy families. Their site lists partner organizations accepting donations throughout the country.
- Newborns in Need is a faith-based organization that provides necessities to local agencies and hospitals serving premature, ill or impoverished newborns. Local chapters collect formula, clothes, blankets, diapers and baby hygiene items to be distributed in their local communities. Find a local chapter here.
- If you live near New York or Los Angeles: BabyBuggy.org, created by Jessica Seinfeld, collects both gently used and new gear & clothing for infants and children newborn through age 14.
Contact DFACS, local churches, and/or your local women and children’s shelter for other suggestions.
