$20 Chair Makes Apartment Therapy’s Best High Chair List

Apartment Therapy released it’s 2012 best high chair list this month, and I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to see the ANTILOP high chair from IKEA on this list. It’s an absolute steal at $19.99 and comes in blue and red. The tray is another $5.

Don’t live near an IKEA? Unlike so many other droolworthy IKEA products, you can actually by the Antilop online. It looks like shipping adds another $10, but hey, a $30 high chair is still a steal!

Two more high chairs under $100 made the list: the Posh Pod from Safety 1st ($69.99 at Amazon) and this classic tray-less wooden model by L.A. Baby ($57.99 at Amazon).

The chairs on Apartment Therapy’s list were chosen by readers and AT staff. You can see AT’s entire list and check out readers’ comments here or browse the most popular high chairs at Amazon here.

Do you have the Antilop? What do you think? Do you have a great chair that costs less than $100? Share it in the comments!

We have an Antilop. A friend was supposed to pick it up for us on a trip but we ended up having to order it instead. It’s worth every penny of the $30 we paid. It’s lightweight, easy to clean, easy to move around, simple take apart and I can’t imagine having any other high chair. No fabric to wash makes it priceless. Our daughter has loved it from the first time we sat her in it.

For those who already have a sturdy chair that doesn’t tip over easily, I would argue a booster seat, like Fisher Price’s Healthy Care Deluxe, is a much better value. It’s portable (great for restaurants), can be used as a high chair, and becomes a height-adjustable booster. My daughter started using hers when she could sit, and is still in it (now set at the lowest setting) at 3 years old.

After buying the $150 chicco Polly high chair I got the Antilop and LOVE it. Easy to clean, compact, comes apart, and blue! I will never use another high chair!

  4. IKEA Recalls to Repair High Chair Due to Fall Hazard
    Thu Jan 05 00:00:00 UTC 2012
    [National] January 2012 – August 2012

IKEA, in cooperation with the US CPSC, voluntarily recalls for repair the ANTILOP high chair. Customers who have an ANTILOP high chair from supplier #17389 and production date 0607-0911 (YYMM), are asked to immediately contact IKEA for instructions on how to receive replacement restraint, free of charge.

The high chair restraint buckle can open unexpectedly, creating a fall hazard.

IKEA has received eight reports worldwide of restraint buckles that opened unexpectedly, including three reports of children who received minor injuries after falling from the high chair.

Customers with an ANTILOP high chair are asked to check the supplier number and production week number moulded into the underside of the seat.

No other high chairs are affected.

IKEA apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

For more information, please contact IKEA toll-free (888) 966-4532.

If your baby is small, skinny and wiggly like mine, then the Ikea and La Baby styles may not be the best. There aren’t any adjustable parts, and she can wiggle out of the belt in no time flat. I LOVE the Boon high chair, also on the list, because it can pull up to the table or use its own separate tray, which FITS IN THE DISHWASHER! Also, molded plastic is all one piece and easy to wipe down. Do NOT buy one of those expensive ones with the padded seat and a million cracks — I started out my parenthood with a $250 Peg Perego high chair and hated every mealtime.
