Toys That Get Played With 2013: 5 to 6 Years

TTGPW2013Welcome to the 2013 updates of Baby Cheapskate’s “Toys That Get Played With” lists. The toys on this list are here for one reason and one reason alone – because kids love them and continue to play with them long after the holiday decor is boxed up.

There’s no one toy that every kid likes, but the toys on the list have proven track records among Baby Cheapskate readers when it comes to appeal and longevity. Each toy is linked to its listing on Amazon so that you can learn more about it.

Most Loved Toys for Kids 5 to 6 Years Old

You can find this and other holiday-themed lists under the Toys that Get Played With tab at the top of BabyCheapskate’s home page.

We purchased a Leappad 2 last year for Christmas, and the kids (4 and 2) liked it, but the batteries were constantly going dead, and the cartridges were all over the place (and expensive!). Then I won a Kindle Fire at our local library, and THAT the kids love. We can download plenty of games (better that the ones on leappad) for free. The best part is Amazon’s “Kindle Free Time”. Its a few dollars a month (4.99?), and the kids get free and instant access to hundreds of preselected books, apps, and videos. Once in that mode, the kids can’t leave without a password, so they have restricted content, and no chance of accidentally purchasing anything. The apps are selected based on their age, so it can grow with them. I highly recommend the Kindle over the Leappad2 for kids.
